![]() Andrew Malloy has lived in Los Angeles for over twenty five years. He is a New Hampshire native and attended the University of Massachusetts where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. He continued his education at The Juilliard School where he received a Master of Music in Performance. After living and working in New York City he relocated to Los Angeles where he now works as an active freelance musician. He performs as a regular member of the Pasadena, Santa Barbara and New West Symphonies and The Crown City Brass Quintet. In addition, he works with most of the leading musical organizations in the Los Angeles area. These include the Los Angeles Philharmonic, LA Opera and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra as well as the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and San Luis Obispo Festival Mozaic. He teaches trombone at Cal State University- Northridge, Pepperdine University. He is active in the area as a solo recitalist. He commissioned and premiered Sonata for Trombone and Piano by Stanley Friedman, Fantasy by Lincoln Hanks and Dozeandeeze by Jim Self. He has completed work on a solo album, BEST OF FRIENDS, including these new works and other works by Jack Hayes and Robert Marsteller never published or recorded. In the recording field, Mr. Malloy plays regularly for many well known film composers and has played on hundreds of film soundtracks. In December, 2007 a new CD Carols From the Bells produced with Bill Reichenbach and Ken Kugler was released. This album is a collection of Christmas carols arranged by Bill Reichenbach, recorded by Kugler and performed by trombonists in LA including top studio players and members of the LA Philharmonic. All profits from this project benefit the Hearts of Music Fund, a non profit created to aid musicians and their families with health emergencies. Please visit the events section of the site for any upcoming solo performances. Recently completed commissions include a work by Steven J. Williams called Three Favorite Poems. Each poem is performed as a reading with a piano underscore which uses material from the pieces written for trombone and piano based on each of the three poems. The poems are: Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley, Not Waving But Drowning by Stevie Smith and The Mower's Song by Andrew Marvel. The next commission by Damian Montano, Four plus One, is a trombone feature or solo within a group with an instrumentation of two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba was premiered Monday, October 4 in Raitt Recital Hall at Pepperdine University. Gernot Wolfgang's commission, Leaps and Bounds, for trombone and piano was completed and premiered in late February, 2011. Bill Reichenbach has started writing his piece for me which will be a brass quintet featuring solo trombone. |
