![]() Andrew Malloy has lived in Los Angeles for over twenty five years. He is a New Hampshire native and attended the University of Massachusetts where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. He continued his education at The Juilliard School where he received a Master of Music in Performance. After living and working in New York City he relocated to Los Angeles where he now works as an active freelance musician. He performs as a regular member of the Pasadena, Santa Barbara and New West Symphonies and The Crown City Brass Quintet. In addition, he works with most of the leading musical organizations in the Los Angeles area. These include the Los Angeles Philharmonic, LA Opera and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra as well as the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival. He teaches trombone at Cal State University- Northridge, Pepperdine University and California Lutheran University. He is active in the area as a solo recitalist. He commissioned and premiered Sonata for Trombone and Piano by Stanley Friedman, Fantasy by Lincoln Hanks and Dozeandeeze by Jim Self in a series of three solo recitals in Los Angeles. He has completed work on a solo album, BEST OF FRIENDS, including these new works and other works never recorded. In the recording field, Mr. Malloy plays regularly for many well known film composers and has played on hundreds of film soundtracks. Four recitals in the fall of 2006 featured the two newest commissions by Mr. Malloy. These works: "Hoi Polloi" by Nick Lane and "Fourteen Prayers" by John Steinmetz have already been recorded and will be included in the next cd of new music for trombone all commissioned by him. In December, 2007 a new CD Carols From the Bells produced with Bill Reichenbach and Ken Kugler was released. This album is a collection of Christmas carols arranged by Bill Reichenbach, recorded by Kugler and performed by trombonists in LA including top studio players and members of the LA Philharmonic. All profits from this project benefit the Hearts of Music Fund, a non profit created to aid musicians and their families with health emergencies. During the summer of 2008 Andy was asked to participate in recordings of arrangements by Anne McGinty and Bill Reichenbach for a brass octet. Joining, among others, Alex Iles, Bill Reichenbach and Doug Tornquist these great arrangements were recorded and are now available through Anne's website, see links, as well as CD Baby The fall of 2008 marked the premiere of several new commissions. On October 27 a faculty recital program at Cal. State Univ, Northridge included first performances of works by Adrienne Albert - Wind Tides, Jason Barabba - Speculation, Stephen Yip - Sunflower and Steve Williams - Two Favorite Poems. The recital program also included recent unpublished works by Dwayne Milburn - Rondo a la Carte, Nick DePinna's Little Cry San Bernardino and Orianna Webb's Three Studies for Trumpet, Trombone and Piano.
